Abstract

The Qur’an possesses linguistic distinctiveness evident in the precision of its word choices, sentence structures, and the depth of meaning contained within. Surah Al-Kautsar is one such surah that exemplifies this quality, despite its remarkably concise structure. This study aims to examine the aspect of I’jaz Lughawi (linguistic inimitability) in Surah Al-Kautsar by analyzing its diction and semantic relationships. Employing a qualitative approach and a library research method, the study draws upon the Qur’an, exegesis (tafsir) works, academic books, journals, and other relevant sources. The findings reveal that the linguistic distinctiveness of Surah Al-Kautsar is manifest in the selection of the terms Al-Kautsar, Wanhar, and Al-Abtar, each of which carries a wealth of meaning and unique usage characteristics. Furthermore, the interrelationship between the phrases Innā A’ṭaināka Al-Kautsar, Faṣalli Li Rabbika Wanhar, and Inna Syāni’aka Huwa Al-Abtar demonstrates structural coherence, shifts in modes of address (khitab), and semantic interconnectedness that reinforce the surah’s message. Thus, the distinctive diction and semantic structure of Surah Al-Kautsar demonstrate a form of I’jaz Lughawi that achieves density of meaning, linguistic beauty, and depth of message within a highly concise form.
